Abstract

This work relates to the analysis of a form of specialization based on Data Journalism and news organizations (old Media companies) have been incorporating this specialty as innovation journalism. Data Journalism involves using statistical and visualization tools to create and tell stories better in new and attractive to the Internet audience. It is the evolution of what some years ago was known as Precision Journalism or Desktop Journalism.

The article, starting from an analytical contextualization, aims to demonstrate how Data Journalism, whose use is clear from existing technologies linked to data processing, supplementing the various forms and contents, giving way to a new specialty of Journalism and, specifically, Investigative Journalism.

Author Biographies

  • Jesús Flores Vivar, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (España)

    PhD in information Science from the Complutense University of Madrid, where he is a tenured professor and a graduate in journalism from the USMP. He is a lecturer and guest lecturer at international conferences and seminars (Harvard, UCLA, UNAM). He is author, co-author and editor of various publications and principal investigator of several projects related to Ciberperiodismo and interactive media. Journalist, blogger and new media analyst, from the 2006 organizes the International Congress of Blogs and network journalism.

  • Cecilia Salinas Aguilar, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (España)

    PhD in Information Sciences, Master in Economic information and degree in journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid, where she is an honorary collaborating professor. Journalist specializing in science and culture, she is the author and co-author of numerous articles and chapters of books presented to National and international congresses. His lines of research focus on scientific dissemination, ethics and history of journalism.
